The price at the nutrition shop for flor-essence tea or essiac is much higher than yours. You seem to have the exact same ingredients, but does your mixture have the same ratios, and are the herbs of high quality?
We use the same eight herbs to make essiac. Although we do not know another company’s ratios, we DO have the original formula proven most effective in clinical trials conducted by Rene Caisse and Dr. Charles Brusch. Our ingredients are organic and we use 20% of the sheep sorrel root.
Regarding Essiac Tea in General
How can essiac help me?
It appears that essiac tea's primary actions are to remove heavy metals, detoxify the body, restore energy levels, and rebuild the immune system. Since it rebuilds the immune system, your body is better able to rid itself of sickness.
please visit Essiac Benefits If your essiac is the best, how can you sell it so inexpensively?
Our company is a no frills business. We don’t waste money on unnecessary advertising or expensive office equipment. We keep a very low overhead. Our business is run by using honest and sound business principles; provide the best product at a fair price without sacrificing customer service. Much of our business is word of mouth (since our product speaks for itself). The average retailer makes an enormous profit due to their high prices. Since we sell a large amount of one product, we receive discounts on the herbs. For these reasons, we are able to pass the savings on to our customers. We understand that many people live on a budget. We are not out to add more stress to someone’s life especially when they are sick.
Will essiac cure cancer or other diseases?
Essiac is not a drug and therefore not able to be FDA approved as a proven treatment. We cannot legally claim that essiac is a cure for cancer or for any other disease. Having said that, the vast majority of customers, those who are either sick or healthy, report an overall improvement in their health, a stronger immune system and increased energy. Essiac tea gives the body the strength to fight disease and illness.
Can I take essiac along with radiation or chemotherapy?
Yes, in fact essiac tends to complement them and improve the quality of life for a person on chemotherapy and/or radiation. Although chemotherapy drugs destroy cancer cells, they also destroys good cells. It can’t differentiate between the two. It also can destroy the chemicals and compounds that allow essiac tea to work at its optimum. For these reasons we recommend that you take the aggressive PLUS dose of 6 oz. of tea three times per day, rather than the regular aggressive dose of 3 oz. of tea three times per day. From our experience and experimentation, we've found that people on chemotherapy and radiation tend to have best results taking 6 oz. three times per day. Although some have remained on 3 oz. three times per day and also had good results we recommend the higher dose if possible.
Can I take essiac with other alternative or traditional treatments?
Yes, and in many cases the treatments will complement each other, compounding the positive health effects. In our experience there is no reason not to take essiac tea along with all treatments, both traditional and alternative. You are advised to consult with your practitioner. If you are concerned, ease into your essiac tea usage gradually, starting with 1/2 the full dose.
When can I expect to notice a benefit from taking essiac?
Every person and their reaction time differs. Some notice benefits as soon several days while others it may take weeks. In most cases people notice an improvement within two weeks of drinking the tea regularly. This, however, can vary depending on the individual and the reason that they are taking essiac.
How long should I continue taking essiac tea?
As with any herbal product, it is up to the individual. Some people take essiac until their body’s get back to normal and some people stay on essiac and make it part of their daily health routine. If your health problem returns, we recommend taking the aggressive treatment dose until your test results return to normal.
If I am healthy, can essiac tea hurt me? Can I take the aggressive treatment dose even if I am generally healthy?
Essiac tea will not hurt you.* If fact, it can prevent many illnesses. We know many people who take the aggressive treatment dose of 3 oz. three times per day for general health and daily detoxification. It is not necessary to take this dose for preventive measures if you are in good health but it won’t hurt you. The higher dose may work better for you especially if you have a weak immune system in general.
*Women who are pregnant are generally advised not to take essiac tea during pregnancy. If you are taking prescription medications, consult with your practitioner before taking any herbal supplement.
What is essiac tea typically used for?
The most common uses of essiac tea are: cancerous tumors, diabetes, leukemia, liver problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and hepatitis C.
for a list of benefits, click here Are there typical side effects with essiac tea that I should be aware of?
Side effects, if any, are mild and may temporarily include nausea and/or loose stools. These are signs of detoxification so as long as you can tolerate it, it is actually a beneficial thing. This usually will happen when someone starts with the aggressive dose of 3 oz. three times a day. If these symptoms bother you, start more slowly by taking 1/2 of the recommended dose and gradually increase it. They will eventually subside. The benefits of the tea outweigh the mild side effects. Before starting any regime, check with your practitioner.
Which herbs are found in eight herb essiac?
The eight herbs that make up essiac are: blessed thistle, burdock root, kelp, red clover, sheep sorrel, slippery elm bark, Turkish rhubarb root, and watercress. The herbs, which all have benefits of their own, seem to have a synergistic (additive) effect when taken together in a specific ratio. To learn more about the properties of these herbs click essiac ingredients Why would I choose eight herb essiac instead of four herb essiac?
Simply stated, eight herb essiac is far more effective than the four herb formula. Four herb essiac was designed to have one of the herbs injected which is not the method used today. It was also created to detoxify only the liver while the eight herb formula detoxifies the liver AND the colon. The colon is crucial since it contains the majority of toxins. Because the health of the body is dependent on both the liver and the colon, the complete essiac formula, rather than the shortened four herb version does the best job.
The original eight herb formula is the original essiac formula, clinically tested and found to have more beneficial results than four herb essiac. Those knowledgeable on the product will not accept four herb blends. Customer after customer have agreed with these findings. If you are going to take essiac, why not take the best available.
How does eight herb essiac taste?
Eight herb essiac does have a slightly bitter taste caused by the watercress. This herb is not used in the four herb formula although it is an important component. Watercress is high in vitamin C and has many healing properties. Most people get accustomed to the taste after a couple of weeks of taking essiac tea. If the taste bothers you, follow it with a few sips of your favorite juice or mix it in with the juice.
Should I take the tea hot or cold? Do I need to take it with meals or on an empty stomach?
It is recommended that you drink essiac tea cold. It is called 'tea' because you brew the herbs, but then you store the tea in the refrigerator. Essiac tea is sometimes called 'essiac juice' for that reason. After being tested, it proved most effective when taken cold and on an empty stomach. Take it at least one hour before eating a meal, and at least two hours after your last meal.
Regarding Our Powdered Herbs
Why do you use powdered herbs?
Although powdered herbs are more expensive for us to use than whole herbs, the extra cost is well worth it. This is because powdered herbs make for a more potent brew. With powdered (pulverized) herbs, there is more surface area on the herbs for the extracts to seep into the tea. Anything in powdered form mixes easier and more thoroughly. Furthermore, powdered herbs are pulverized fine enough that they can remain in the tea and be consumed along with the tea. It is advised that you drink the herb particles in addition to the tea, since they contain beneficial compounds. By consuming the herbs along with the tea, you won't miss out on any of the important chemical compounds that are part of whole foods.
Are your herbs organic?
Yes, all of our herbs are certified organic.
Are your herbs irradiated? Do they contain chemicals or pesticides?
All of our herbs are non-irradiated, chemical-free and pesticide-free.
Are your herbs fresh?
Yes! Our herbs are incredibly fresh because our supplier sells thousands of pounds of essiac herbs a month. We turn over the majority of our herb inventory every 1-2 weeks. Many customers have commented on how fresh the herbs look and smell. If you purchase essiac from an outlet that sells more than one herbal formula, you're more likely to receive stale herbs. We sell only essiac.
Where do your herbs come from?
All of our herbs are currently domestic herbs grown in the U.S. The specific states vary, but right now all of our herbs are coming from an herb company in California.
I've read that you shouldn't purchase the essiac herbs already mixed, but that it is better to purchase the herbs individually and blend them yourself. Why?
That is definitely not advised. First there is the formula and proper ratio of herbs in the formula. We have the original formula and ratio that Rene Cassie and Dr. Charles Brusch developed, so we know our product has been tried and tried again with remarkable results. Second, the cost. It would be too expensive to track down all the herbs yourself and try to create the eight herb formula (we have already down all the leg work in that department). It comes down to people’s trust in us and our product.
Regarding Shipping Options and Costs, and International Orders
Which shipping services do you use?
We use the United States Postal Service. We offer ground shipping (1-6 days), 2-3 Day Priority Mail, and Express shipping (overnight to most locations).
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping costs varies widely between orders because of the weight of your order and by the distance you are from our location in California. Typical shipping costs range from $3-4 for an order of less than one pound using ground shipping, to $13-15 for 2-3 Day Priority 6 lb. 8 oz. orders (year-long supply for most people).
For shipping cost quotes for your particular location, shipping time preference, and order size, visit the United States Postal Service and click on "calculate postage." Calculate the weight of the size order you would like, plus a few ounces to account for the weight of the packing materials, and about 50 cents to account for handling fees.
Alternately, you can begin filling out an order at the shopping cart, and you will see the shipping costs after you input your credit card information, but before you have to confirm your order. If you don't wish to place your order, you'll be able to leave the screen without ordering. If you place multiple orders at once we can sometimes reduce the cost of shipping for you by using flat rate boxes. Call us Toll-Free at 1-877-HEALTEA to inquire.
Why does shipping cost that much?
We don't make a profit on shipping. We charge what the Post Office charges us for shipping, plus cost of materials and a nominal transportation fee. USPS offers the best rates right now for the sizes of orders we sent most often. We generally send packages that weigh one pound or more, which is simply more expensive than shipping a lighter package.
In instances where Priority Mail on a package costs close to what ground shipping costs, we will ship your order via 2-3 day Priority Mail at no extra charge to you. If you decide to purchase essiac at a retail location near you for pick-up to avoid shipping fees, please know that it is unlikely that you'll save money. Retail outlets typically charge at least four times as much as we do for essiac even if you include our shipping charge--and in some cases even more than that.
Do you ship internationally? What does it cost?
Yes, we ship to many countries internationally.
Will the essiac be allowed into my country? What if my package is seized by customs?
Please contact your country’s regulating bodies before ordering essiac to find out if our product will be allowed into your country. Explain to them what exactly our essic herbal tea is and you may tell them the natural herbs we use. We do not write out or list our ingredients on the customs slip. We simply write "herbal tea." We are not responsible for any orders that don't arrive to you because they are seized by Customs or other government organizations.
We will never ship to a country that we know will refuse to let our eight herb essiac enter within it’s borders, but it is impossible for us to keep up-to-date with all the shipping laws of the various nations. If your country’s shipping laws regarding natural products has changed PLEASE inform us. If your package is seized, you will NOT receive a refund, so purchase international orders at your own discretion and risk. Customers are solely responsible for any fees or duties to receive our products into the destination country. The same terms and conditions that apply to our domestic orders apply to international returns.
Regarding Packaging, Preparation, and Storage of Essiac Tea
What type of packaging will my essiac arrive in?
Your eight herb essiac will arrive in the specified number of 1-oz., 4 oz. or 1 lb. sealed and labeled packets. These units are stand-alone packages complete with brewing and dosage instructions. They DO NOT have our website or our contact info. on the label in case you are purchasing them for resale purposes.
Do you have photos of what these products look like?
Yes click for Essiac Product List How come you don't recommend that we brew the tea twice like some companies do?
We have come to the conclusion that brewing the essiac tea twice is a waste of time. When an essiac company recommends that you brew their tea twice, they more than likely are using herbs that are not powdered (which we specialize in providing). As stated earlier, we use the authentic formula which does not require this. Although brewing the tea twice won’t hurt the tea, it will not provide any additional benefits.
How should I store my essiac herbs?
Store your essiac in a cool, dark place and if possible in the original packages we sent them in but do not store in the refrigerator; it's too cold. An unopened package of essiac herbs can stay fresh for up to one year.
How should I store my essiac tea once I've brewed it?
Once you’ve brewed your essiac into a tea then you must refrigerated it. Because we do not add any preservatives or additives we strongly advise not storing brewed tea for more than 16 days because the tea may spoil. Store your brewed tea in spring water gallon containers or glass bottles. Thoroughly wash and clean all your containers with hot water before you store your tea.

Yes. We love our pets and like most people we treat our pets like they are members of the family. When they become ill, we want to help them.
click here for information on Essiac for Pets Although the dosage may be different, the tea is still brewed the same way. If you'll be using more than 4 oz. of essiac tea per day for the entire household, prepare 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon at a time.
Eight herb essiac is the most effective essiac. Those
knowledgeable on the product will not accept four herb blends. Eight
herb essiac contains herbs that target liver health as well as colon
health whereas the four herb blend targets only the liver. Because the
health of the body is dependent on both the liver and the colon, the
complete essiac formula, rather than the shortened four herb version
does the best job.

The Detailed History of Essiac
According to many herbalists in the marketplace today, "Essiac" is comprised of four herbs: Sheep Sorrel (Rumex acetosella), Burdock Root (Arctium lappa), Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus flilva), and Turkish Rhubarb Root (Rheum palmatum). The four herb essiac formula is in the public domain, and almost every herbalist, alternative health clinician, and health food store carries it. However, this four herb formula is actually just a smaller version of the original eight herb essiac formula. The eight herb formula is the one received and gradually refined by Canadian nurse Rene Caisse (Pronounced 'Rin Case'). And remember, we powder the herbs which is crucial to the recipe.
The story of "Essiac" began with Rene Caisse. Caisse was a head nurse in an Ontario hospital, and she heard of an herbal recipe from an elderly female patient. The formula contained eight herbs. It was given to the woman years before by an Ojibway medicine man. The Ojibway medicine man had offered his help because he knew the woman was suffering from breast cancer. The patient recovered from her cancer and it never returned. In 1922, she gave Rene the recipe after Rene expressed her interest in attempting helping others with cancer by administering this herbal formula.
Rene Caisse used this original eight herb recipe two years later on her aunt, who was terminally ill with stomach and liver cancer. She eventually started calling it 'essiac' ('essiac' is her last name spelled backwards). Her aunt recovered and her illness never returned. Caisse and her aunt's doctor, Dr. R.O. Fisher, began experimenting with the herbal tea and conducted some research on essiac with mice. Dr. R.O. Fisher began using essiac with some of his terminally ill patients, and many of his patients improved greatly.
Caisse Began Testing Different Versions of the Essiac Formula
Caisse and the doctor began to vary the formula. One version involved injecting one of the herbs (Sheep Sorrel) while administering the others orally in liquid form. The Ojibway medicine man and his people never injected it; they had simply prepared tea, but Rene had decided to conduct formal research on her formula in hopes that she could improve its efficacy. It was discovered that only one herb could be injected--and only into the muscle. This was a painful procedure for very sick people, and many, due to their emaciated state, had hardly any muscles left that were healthy enough to accept injections.
Nonetheless, this partial-injection method of administering essiac was used for several years and there were some success stories that were documented from this procedure. However, there were failures too, and Caisse felt that additional studies were needed.
Rene Caisse and Dr. Charles Brusch Collaborate to Further the Research and Use of Essiac Tea
The eight herb essiac formula has been varied slightly over the years. These changes happened as part of a natural testing process whereby patients were monitored and their results noted. In 1959, Rene Caisse went to the Brusch Medical Clinic in Cambridge, Mass. to join Dr. Charles Armao Brusch, MD. She became partners with Dr. Charles Brusch with the intent of forming the "Rene Caisse Cancer Research Foundation," a charitable foundation which would have the purpose of utilizing this treatment for cancer in humans. Rene was provided with three rooms for her use at the clinic and all her expenses were taken care of. Rene and Charles Brusch remained partners, co-developers and co-owners until her death in 1978 at the age of 91.
Dr. Brusch, a medical doctor of noted background, had developed an interest in other natural forms of healing, his objective always the 'well-being' of the patient. He had set up the first acupuncture clinic to collect research data, and it was operating in his medical clinic when Rene Caisse arrived in 1959. He was the first doctor in the Western hemisphere to initiate a plan similar to Medicare within his clinic for those without money for medical help. He was extremely interested in herbs and their power to heal, which he learned from a long-time friend, a master herbalist from Lathrop, Missouri.
The objective at Dr. Brusch's clinic was to prove the merits of this simple, non-toxic, eight herb formula called essiac. The formula had been used with great success on many terminally ill patients but Dr. Brusch wanted to do even better. They began their research on the essiac using oral treatment only. No other medication was used and the blend of eight herbs brewed as a tea was given on an empty stomach. In the hope of identifying the active ingredient, they experimented with variations of injectable solutions, each vial containing a different herb. This failed to isolate one single herb, proving that effective results are obtained synergistically though the unique combination of the eight herbs in the correct proportions--the essiac formula.
Consequently they returned to using the essiac formula orally. One version of this formula is called "Flor-Essence" in the marketplace. A double blind study was done in which other herbal formulas were used, all of which proved to be inferior to eight herb essiac.
The Results of the Clinical Trials on the Benefits of Eight Herb Essiac Tea
Some of the positive results obtained from the eight herb essiac formulas were:
--cessation of pain
--increased appetite (emaciated patients gained weight)
--feeling of well-being
--a decrease in depression
--a decrease in anxiety and fear
--a prolongation of life
--a decrease of nodular masses.
Dr. Brusch stated that the mechanism through which the eight herb tea worked was as follows: the essiac tea identified the toxins, gathered them, broke them down, and discharged them.
The Essiac Formula is Tested Further
Through the years some testing was done on essiac at well-known facilities including Sloan Kettering, Northwestern University, and Christie Street Hospital in Toronto, as well as many others. However, as Rene Caisse refused to reveal the full formula, conclusive results remained incomplete. In 1975, she only passed the injectable herb over to Sloan Kettering for testing purposes. They choose to freeze it--the one thing you absolutely cannot do with these herbs--which rendered it useless to test. Rene withdrew the formula from them immediately.
Caisse Did Not Wish to Share The Essiac Formula
In 1977, following a lengthy and in-depth article in a national Canadian magazine, "Homemaker's", a retired chemist named David Fingard was shown the article, and was fascinated to read that Rene Caisse had never given the formula to anyone (other than her partner, with whom she worked). He determined that he would go and see her and talk her into releasing the formula to him. He had never heard of the woman before, even though she lived and worked in the same province, and many stories had been written about her. He admitted this on the "Stayin' Alive" talk radio show, when he was being interviewed by broadcaster Elaine Alexander.
Finegard continued to present his proposal to Caisse, although she kept turning him down. She had already had several offers over the years to disclose the formula, but had always declined, because she believed it would be exploited. Finally, he told both Rene Caisse and Dr. Brusch that he was going to be financially funded by a large Canadian mining corporation, and that he would open five clinics across the country to treat terminally ill cancer patients free of charge, if they would only release the formula to him. Caisse and Dr. Brusch felt that perhaps this was the last chance to get the herbal tea "out" to the people who needed it the most: the "terminal" cancer patients. At the same time, they were wary to reveal the full eight herb essiac formula because they were remained guarded against exploitation.
The Resperin Contract
A contract was drawn up on Oct. 26th, 1977 between Resperin Corporation Limited, David Fingard, and Rene Caisse. The contract provided that Resperin and Caisse would co-operate in the promotion of the Essiac treatment for use throughout the world in alleviation and cure of cancer. Sadly, there was very little compensation in the contract for Rene who had given 56 years of her life to this herbal tea. Dr. Brusch, who was to share any royalty with Caisse, withdrew in this capacity and became only a witness to the signing of the contract. Caisse cautiously passed over a smaller four herb formula that day in 1977, as she already had great doubts about what she had been told. Her doubts proved to be true when nothing seemed to be happening and no clinics were ever opened.
To this day, no royalty has ever been paid from this contract to the "Rene Caisse Estate." She gave it away free for 56 years, and has been cheated ever since. Her contract had been breached by Resperin, and technically Caisse reserved the rights to retract her formula, which was a condition stated in the agreement.
Essiac After Rene Caisse
In 1978, Rene Caisse died. Her "hey-day" was from 1924 to 1942, when she closed her cancer clinic, which she had operated for eight years in Bracebridge, Ontario. At that time, the medical powers-that-be formed a "Cancer Commission" which had the power to decree what could be used to treat cancer. Rene feared being charged, even though all around her, including many medical doctors, were completely aware of her outstanding successes. Dr. Brusch continued to work with the essiac formula they had developed together and many of his patients reaped the benefits.
In 1984, Dr. Brusch was interviewed by a long-time radio producer and broadcaster, Elaine Alexander, who broadcast out of Vancouver, Canada. This woman, as the producer of a popular radio talk show, produced a few programs on this herbal tea in the 1970s and had researched it in-depth for many years. In 1984, as a broadcaster, she introduced a new program called "Stayin' Alive." This show was a health-oriented show concerned with informing the listeners of the best in alternate and more natural ways of restoring health. On this show she again reported on this famous, though underrated, story.
The listener response was massive and seven 2-hour programs were produced covering essiac tea in every aspect. Dr. Brusch was interviewed a number of times, as were others of importance to the story. Elaine and Dr. Brusch became friends. He was impressed by her long research of the subject, and her genuine interest. In 1988 they became partners legally and he passed to her a number of the herbal formulas on which he and Rene had worked during the time they were partners and co-owners.
The Eight Herb Essiac Formulas Available
A larger and further developed formula of this herbal tea, now known as "Flor-Essence," emerged in the marketplace in July 1992. This pre-brewed liquid tea contains eight herbs that its makers claim are in perfect proportion for synergistic activity. Originally this tea was only available in pre-made form, which made it very expensive to take on a continual basis. Now, the dry herbs are also available, but Flor-Essence is still far more expensive than many alternate brands that contain the same eight herbs. However, Flor-Essence is a highly reputable product and many attribute great results to this tea.
